A Kalinchowk Trek is a short excursion trek in the hill top viewing splendid Mt. Gaurishankar, Melungste, Langtang, Ganesh Himal and many more.

If you have a short time and wants some challenging hike, Kalinchowk trek would be perfect one. Only three days trek to Kalinchowk would be amazing that starts with a drive from Kathmandu to the Eastern Nepal at Charikot. Enjoy the tremendous landscape, mountains, loving locals and culture. An arduous ascent in a clear weather will offers a breathtaking view of snowcapped peaks including Mt. Gaurishankar, Mt. Langtang, Melungste in the north with the pleasing sound from springs is really a great achievement.

Kalinchowk is named after the hilltop shrine Kali- the Hindu Goddess and a symbol of Power. From here, two giant rivers: Sunkoshi and Tamakoshi get originates.  At the top, the shrine Kalinchowk Bhagawati resides facing south with background of beautiful mountains and surrounded by metal Trident and Bells. Standing at the top after an arduous walk becomes worthwhile while enjoying the heavenly views.

Day 01 Arrive Kathmandu, transfer to Hotel (Altitude: 1,300m/4,264 ft. Meal: Dinner)

Day 02 Drive to Charikot in a local bus following Bhotekoshi River (Altitude: 1554 m/ 51328 ft. Drive: 5/6 hrs. Meal: BLD)

After delightful breakfast, you can catch bus for Charikot drive from Ratnapark Bus Park. Following the Araniko Highway passing beautiful Green Mountain, rivers and stream, you will reach at Charikot Bazzar. It will be an exciting drive to explore the countryside villages. Roaming around the Charikot bazzar will be an interesting experience. Spend overnight at Hotel/lodges.


Day 03 Drive to Kuri or Trek to Kuri (Trek: 6/7 hrs. if drive: 3/4 hrs. Meal: BLD)

After breakfast, you can begins your journey to Kuri. Today, you can take an option of either hiring a Jeep from Charikot Bazzar or starts walking following the local trail. Walking along the local trail exploring countryside village is really mesmerizing. Walking for an hour in a gentle road trail, you will reach at Deurali, from where actual trek of the starts. Follow the local trail passing green forest of rhododendron, you will reach at Gairi where you can see Yak grazing around. Here, you can take a tea break and again starts to walk on a forest trail steeply upwards. Now, you will see some Juniper trees along with Rhododendron bushes on the way to Kuri. Climbing in a steep up, you will reach at the entrance of Kalinchowk which is symbolized by an Iron Gate decorated with some Trident and colorful flags. A steep descend finally will takes you to Kuri Bazzar. Spend overnight at Local lodge.


Day 04 Excursion to Kalinchowk Bhagawati and back to Kuri drive/ trek to Charikot (Altitude: 3790 m/ 12507 ft. Trek: 6/7 hrs. if drive: 3/4 hrs. Meal: BLD)

Begins to walk in early morning to hike hilltop Kalinchowk Bhagawati. Starts with a gentle walk to the green hill passing Rhododendron forest trail. The eye-catching view of landscape on every side will let you feel refreshed and amazed. Taking rest in between, climbing in straight upright will takes you to the ridge that awaits the tremendous scenario of series of mountains including Mt. Gaurishankar, Melungtse, Shisha Pangma, Langtang, Ganesh Himal and many others. On a clear weather, you can also view Kathmandu valley. It is a perfect place for a sunrise view over the mountains with a background music of Sun Koshi and Tama Koshi Rivers. Spending some time clicking some photographs, retrace back to Kuri.

You can take Lunch at Kuri and hire a Jeep to drive back to Charikot or you can walk downhill following same trail. On reaching Charikot, you can refreshed yourself with a shower and rest at Hotel.


Day 05 Short drive/walk to Dolakha Bhimsen temple, drive to Kathmandu (Altitude: 1350/4428 ft. Drive: 5/6 hrs. Meal: BLD)

In the morning, you can catch a bus to Dolakha Bhimsen. It is an ancient trading route to Tibet and a center of Business in medieval period. If you wish, you can even walk along the local trail passing forest and barley fields. You can catch a perfect view of the distance village and green field. After having lunch, catch a bus to Kathmandu from Charikot bazzar. In the Evening, we, Hiking Nepal, will offer you a farewell dinner at authentic restaurant. You can also share your experience and feedback us for our services. Spend overnight at Hotel.


Day 06 Departure (Altitude: 1350/4428 ft. Meal: B)

Our tour officer will pick you up from your hotel three hours prior to your departure time. You will be escorted in a private vehicle to the airport for your final departure. Have a safe flight home.

Group Size:

For group, we normally run with minimum 2 person to maximum 10 in our published group departure program. However, there is no barrier for a private trip. We can run a trip for single person and even more than 10 in a group. Normally for a group, we provide 1 main guide, 1 assistance guide along with 1 porter for every 2 trekkers. Moreover, for every additional 2 trekkers, 1 more assistance and a porter will be provided making a team combination as follows:

4-6 PAX: 1 guide, 1 assistance guide and 3 porter
7-10 PAX: 1 guide, 2 assistance guide and 4/5 Porter

Guide and Trip Safety

Once, you confirm your trip, it is our responsibility to make your trip wonderful without creating any difficulties. Hence, we have prepared our itinerary in such a way that it will properly acclimatize you. Also, we request you in advance to have regular exercises and make habits to walk in a daily basis. Similarly, during trek, you will be fully guided by our professional trekking guides and supporting team. They are properly trained in regards to safety and first aid. Even, we have every set up in case of emergency such as high altitude medicine and Gammow Bag (High altitude Chamber bag). Please note High altitude Chamber Bag is used to provide heat in your body and it is available on certain cost. Moreover, to let you familiar with altitude, you are suggested to walk slow and steady and ensure for proper acclimatization.

For trekking, we provide local experienced guide speaking fluent English and familiar with the local routes, landscape, flora, fauna as well as culture, and tradition of certain areas and let you feel comfortable. We do not encourage for child labor, hence, our porter will be above 16 years that are living in the Himalayas of Nepal; as well as carries only 20-22 kg weight per porter. Normally, the guide and support teams are selected with proper analyzing of their experience, leadership skills and personal aptitude. Our guides are well familiar with different societies of all caste and customs along the trail and share the insight culture with you that are not even noted in guide book.

To make our staffs more fluent and experienced, we consistently provide trainings. They have been participating in special training programs like Trekking guide training, Rock climbing, Ice climbing, Intensive Wilderness first Aid and many more that has been certified and approved by Nepal Government.

Travel Insurance

While travelling to Nepal, you are requested to have a travel insurance that should cover any comprehensive expenses possible to acquire due to medical issues or accidents. Especially, your travel insurance must protect air ambulance, treatment charges, rescue and evacuation, product cancellation and refundable charges, flight delay and cancellations. We suggest you to bring you travel insurance certificate or send us scan copy and required to issue from your home land and we do not arrange or sell insurance.

Travelling in the Himalayas is full of adventurous; hence it is wise to choose a proper insurance policy. While choosing your insurance policy, make sure that it will protect all such unforeseen expenses. Your insurer should be well familiar with our itinerary that you have booked and must have agreed to cover all activities being undertaken during trip. Meantime, it is not compulsory that our all the assigned trip are facilities with Heli-rescue. You will not require heli rescue insurance for Tibet Tour as it is not possible to provide such facility.

Vaccination

It is better to follow the precaution given by World Health Organization and other international health related institutions that recommend having vaccines before travelling Nepal to prevent from certain fatal illness. If possible, we suggest you to bring your medical certificate however, it is not required to show but for safety. The recommended vaccines are polio, Diphtheria, Tetanus, typhoid, yellow fever, hepatitis A/B, Influenza (Flu), Japanese encephalitis, and Tuberculosis. Meantime, it is better to consult your professional doctor about your travel and he might recommend you properly. You can also take suggestion of local travelers who have travelled Nepal before and know more about the required precautions. Please note that the protection that can be gained from vaccines varies from 50% to almost 100%. So remember that even if you have taken a vaccine you might still get the disease, although you will have greatly reduced your chances of getting ill.

High Altitude Sickness

At the higher altitude, you will feel a decrease in availability of oxygen. If a person walk in the high altitude particularly climbs up too quickly, he might suffer from High altitude sickness. Hence, proper rest is required at that altitude. You can cure at right time knowing certain symptoms of Altitude Sickness. Common symptoms are headache, loss of appetite, tiredness and nausea, vomiting, dizziness and difficulty in sleeping. The best remedies that local belief and take is taking garlic, or ginger in mouth. Eat dry food and take liquid as much as possible. We recommend Diamox if there is no any options.

Also, we provide experienced guide and staffs in dealing with the effects of higher altitudes. As they are natives of Nepal, they easily acclimatize and therefore can care for their clients. They are equipped with necessary medical supplies and will assist with basic first aid treatment. We design our tours to ensure clients are ready for high altitude, and arrange alternative itineraries for those at risk

Trekking in Nepal is walking in the Himalayas, on mostly level ground with a few sections of steep hillsides- ups and down. It is not so difficult nor too easy to trek Everest Base camp. Your health and physical fitness is vital. Hence, if you can walk 5 miles a day and in a good aerobic shape, you will definitely complete the trek. And you can trek smoothly if you are used to with some walking habits and even join some gym, aerobics. Also, it is better to build a habits of hiking for 3 to 6 hours once a week and use stairs ups and down to make your knees strong and comfortable to walk in the Rocky Mountains. If you are in a good shape, you can enjoy the overall experience.

Nepal is safe for travelling to anybody who wish to spend their holidays with fun and excitements. If you are travelling solo, involved with authorized company and make sure that you should be guided by licensed holder local guides. The Himalayas of Nepal is you trek in the remote site. However, most of the trekking destination are facilitated with the available of accommodating ranging from very basic to highly sophisticated. As you go up, the accommodation will be basic but neat and clean beds with comfortable mattress. Beds are quite small and shared bathroom (some lodges also offer attached bathroom). There is chimney heater in the dining hall where tables are set around to sit nearby heater. We provide clean and comfortable room with attached bathroom at the places where it is available. For meals, you will be served sufficient hygienic food. Our service includes a full board meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Tea/Coffee) based on lodge menu. Normally, for breakfast; porridge, cereals, toast or chapattis, omelets and a range of hot drinks are served. Likewise for Lunch and Dinner; you can taste some Nepalese food (esp. rice, lentils and curry), local food, Indian food, Italian Spaghetti, noodles, potatoes, even Pizza in some areas. It is obvious that you will receive fresh and organic food in the Himalayas of Nepal. Your breakfast and dinner will be served in lodge where you stay and lunch on the way during trek.

For trekking in Nepal, you will be guided by locally trained licensed holder trekking guide who are involved in trekking for many years and used to with the trail, local culture and surrounding. They speak good English and make you feel comfortable while trekking.

While trekking in high altitude, headache and diarrhea is common sickness and our guide will take some prescribed medicine. But for the serious illness and other factor, they are not authorized to take the medicine. But help to take you to the hospital or evacuated back to Kathmandu. Also, you can bring Diamox or other medicine after consulting with your doctor or general physician.

For trekking in Nepal, usually two season are considered best (i.e. Spring: March, April, May and Autumn: September, October, November). During spring time, temperature is mildly warm in low lands while moderate in higher altitudes with plenty of opportunities to have astonishing views of the mountains and landscape. At this time, the blossom flowers especially national flower of Nepal – rhododendron decorate the ascending altitudes with its generous color and beauty. Even the High altitude lodges get opened and get occupied with the mountain lovers. Autumn (September, October and November): This time is considered to be the best tourist season in Nepal with the end of summer and the winter to set in. The weather is highly pleasant so are the mountain views. The trekking routes get beautified with the presence of trekkers and expedition groups. Meantime, most of the festivals of Nepalese societies are enthusiastically celebrated at this time.
